Banksy is one of the most recognised street performers in the world and has maintained his anonymity for years; it is known that he is an established artist in England, but it is not known exactly where he was born.
As the best known graffiti artist today, fans and the general public are interested in knowing the identity behind the artist. The most popular theory indicates that the genius behind Banksy is Robert De Naja, also known as 3D, from the hip-hop group Massive Attack.
Robert De Naja
Those who suspect that it is the musician bases its theory on several data that relate him to the artist over several years. Beginning in the early 90’s when Banksy began his career in graffiti in the Bristol scene as part of the DryBreadZ Crew, while De Naja was born in that city and before forming Massive Attack was devoted to street art, In fact, he is considered as the pioneer of graffiti with the stencil in that city.
Although both have denied the rumor that it is the same person, if they have confirmed a connection between the two, De Naja has mentioned that he is a friend of Banksy and has gone to several Massive Attack concerts. For his part, Banksy collaborated with the introduction for De Naja’s book “3D & the Art of Massive Attack”. In addition both share friendships, an example is the musician Geoff Barrow of Portishead who has collaborated with both on different occasions.
